NHS recognises students’ carer contribution

Students at Clarendon Sixth Form College rewarded after designing unique brand for care home staff.

Three graphic design students: Abidah Tasmin, Robbie Rigby and Joe Curtis-Bailey were awarded for their work after their class was tasked with creating a pin badge, lanyard and certificates for ‘blended roles’ within care settings.

Blended staff are care workers who have received training in basic medical tasks such as administering insulin and dressing wounds. The students were asked to create the branding so that staff can be easily identified within the workplace.

Farrah Amjad, blended roles facilitator at Tameside and Glossop NHS Trust, who commissioned the branding and Darian Owen, Care Quality Manager at Direct Care (who will be adopting the brand) visited the college to award the students. Abidah took 1st place and £50, Robbie took 2nd place and £25 and Joe took 3rd place and £25. Robbie also took home a £30 gift card after his design was selected to be used by carers across Tameside.

College students were selected for the task after impressing with a previous task to design a logo for Tameside Hospital’s Estates department. The project aimed to help students develop the skills they have learnt during lessons and give them experience of working on a live brief with, a high profile client.

Abidah said: “”It was fun to work with a live client and put my skills to good use. It’s great to see your work made into something practical and used by important organisations. This is what I’d really like to do for my future career.”

Harry Arnold, graphic design teacher at Clarendon Sixth Form College, said: “This project has been hugely beneficial to our students and for many is the first time they will have worked with a client to exacting standards. The level of work they have produced has been fantastic and it will be brilliant to see it being proudly used across Tameside. Well done to the students involved.”
