Students’ artwork brightens up hospital for patients

Clarendon Sixth Form College art and design students brighten up local hospital unit using their artistic flair.
Enya Molloy and Isabelle Fox designed and painted a mural in the reception area of the Stamford Unit at Tameside Hospital, to create a more welcoming environment for visitors to the building.
The mural, which features a tree with hand prints as leaves, represents all of the patients and staff who use the unit – a facility which treats those who are in rehabilitation, end of life care and intermediate care before being discharged.
Enya and Isabelle, who were invited to create the mural between November and January, will now use the project as a part of their studies and coursework. Projects such as these give students the confidence to work with external clients in industry, develop their skills and give back to the community.
Antony Makepeace, deputy divisional director at Tameside Hospital, said: “I wanted to take this opportunity to thank Enya and Isabelle for the amazing artwork they have created, it’s the first thing our visitors will see when they arrive. When we asked you to create something on our wall, we wanted something that would give patients and visitors hope and confidence in the care that they would receive. You have achieved that in abundance. The creativity and commitment you have demonstrated to create and complete this display speaks volumes. Well done to the both of you.”
Both students were presented with gifts in recognition of their work at an official ‘unveiling’ ceremony for the mural by Karen James, chief executive of Tameside and Glossop NHS Foundation Trust.
