Level 2 Creative Media Skills

Course content & format

This one year course is designed to introduce students to the world of practical and theoretical media work, regardless of experience. You will complete the course through a number of hands on projects including audio, visual and interactive media technology to create an exciting portfolio of work. You will learn to research, plan, shoot and edit video and create digital content using the latest digital media technology. This learning experience is supported by your very own personal licence for the full Adobe Creative suite, you can also use this on your home computer (not an essential for the course).

Access to enrichment opportunities, to take your creative media experience far beyond the walls of the classroom and engage you on your journey towards becoming a truly successful individual in the media world. The department has strong links to the BBC, Dinosaur, Your MCR, Paradigm Media and other locally based media companies. We also pride ourselves on the production work we do with smaller Tameside based businesses. Your unique experience

This course is housed in the heart of Ashton Town Centre and our facilities and equipment are of industry standard, including: TV studio, DSLR cameras and sound recording equipment. We pride ourselves on progression success through to Level 3, Higher Education, Apprenticeships and employment. We are proud of our history of nurturing students beyond their expectations, through this Level 2 programme and onto higher levels of study within the Digital, Creative & Performing Arts.

This course gives learners an overview of the different areas of the media industry. Each project will require you to demonstrate your creative and planning skills, whether you are making a podcast or music video. You will develop writing skills alongside your creative technical skills, for example camera work and computer based editing. The course encourages creative thinking, which you will develop into real video or print design pieces.

Interpersonal skills are key in underpinning the development of our learners, so this course will also build on your confidence, communication, time management and study skills. Our tutorial programme at college, alongside highly experienced staff, ensures your choices are supported and guided every step of the way.

Entry Qualifications

Level 2 (Intermediate) - 4 GCSEs at grade 3 or above.

A passion and interest in the subject.

Successful interview with a Media tutor.

Good verbal and written communication skills.

How is this course assessed?

100% Coursework.

You will be assessed through a variety of practical media products that you devise and produce over the course of developmental units. Your final assessment grade for the course will come through a Final Major Project where you will produce a media product of your choosing as we aim to assess you to your strengths and interests.

This is a graded course where you can achieve a Pass, Merit or Distinction.
