London visit inspires creative students’ projects

Clarendon Sixth Form College students explore the creative world on a four day visit to London.

Fashion and textiles & art and design students recently took part in an inspiring visit to some of the capital’s most renowned museums and galleries.

During the visit, students explored exhibitions including the Naomi Campbell exhibition at the Victoria & Albert Museum, the Leigh Bowery exhibition at the Tate Modern and the Tim Burton Experience at the Design Museum. They also had the opportunity to see artists at work at the famous graffiti wall, gaining insight into street art and its role in modern culture.

The trip provided students with valuable research for their coursework, allowing them to see well known art and fashion pieces up close and learn about different trends and designs across each decade.

Ryan Boulton, fashion and textiles teacher at Clarendon Sixth Form College, said: “This trip was a fantastic opportunity for students to experience a wide variety of artistic styles and disciplines. Seeing the work in person and exploring different creative environments really helps to expand their knowledge and inspire their own projects. It was an enjoyable and insightful experience for everyone.”

As part of the trip, students also attended a performance of ‘Wicked’ in London’s West End, to gather inspiration for their work.

Olivia Kitchen, fashion and textiles student at Clarendon Sixth Form College, said: “The London trip was extremely beneficial as we saw many exhibitions at multiple museums. I felt this was extremely helpful as it developed my understanding of fashion design and construction. The extravagant costumes in Wicked also really inspired my textiles. Many of the class took time to go to Camden too where we saw lots of street style to take inspiration from. Overall we had a fabulous time!”

Experiences such as these give students vital practical knowledge that they can apply to their future careers in the creative industries.
