Politics students discuss budget with Council

Politics students at Clarendon Sixth Form College, take part in Tameside and Glossop’s Strategic commissioning budget session online.

The annual consultation with young people, held via Zoom with members of Tameside Council, gave the opportunity for the students to voice what subjects should be priority with the budget spending.

From primary care investments to recycling and education, the students were shown a presentation of where the budget IS spent. In particular this year, was the topic of the impact of coronavirus, with a focus on mental health and potential redundancies.

Questions from the students included: how the commission will help with the effects coronavirus has had on local businesses and local residents; what help is there for people to get back into work and how long it takes for the budget to be debated.

Councillor Bill Fairfoull, said :“It was great to be a part of this meeting. Well done to all students who took part. If we can hang on to you all, Tameside is in safe hands in the future.”

The budget covers the following organisations: NHS Tameside and Glossop Commissioning group, Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust and Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council.
