A Level Business Studies

Course content & format

This is a full-time academic study programme following th e Edexcel A Level Business specification. You will sit external examinations at the end of each year, covering all themes studied across the course. To achieve the full A Level qualification, you must complete three written exam papers at the end of Year 2.

You will learn through a variety of engaging teaching methods designed to support different learning styles. These include case studies, group work, independent research, presentations, extended writing, problem solving activities, and real-world business scenarios.

Throughout the course you will study four main themes:

  ●  Theme 1: Marketing and People

  ●  Theme 2: Managing Business Activities

  ●  Theme 3: Business Decisions and Strategy

  ●  Theme 4: Global Business

These themes explore how businesses operate, make decisions, grow, and compete in both national and international markets.

Your unique experience

Studying A Level Business gives you the opportunity to understand how organisations function and how decisions are made in the real world. If you are interested in entrepreneurship, management, finance, marketing, or the global economy, this course provides an excellent foundation.

Some of the unique learning experiences include:

  ●  Business trips and visits to local and national organisations to see business operations in action such as Chester Zoo and Manchester City. There is also a trip for Year 13 to an exam workshop ran by the chief examiner.

  ●  Guest speakers from industry, including entrepreneurs, university lecturers and business professionals. Guest talks have previously included Sheffield Hallam University and entrepreneurial theatre companies.

  ●  Links with employers offering insight into recruitment, leadership, and workplace expectations. The exam specification is built with employer insight and links are made with local employers across Tameside.

  ●  Opportunities for enterprise activities, such as taking part in national competitions such as the Office for National Statistics Business Data Competition.

Entry Qualifications

Entry requirements for A Level courses

  ●  Five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including English and Mathematics.

  ●  A strong interest in and enthusiasm for, the subject chosen.

  ●  A willingness to commit to regular Independent Study outside of lesson time, as A Level courses require a high level of motivation, organisation and academic commitment.

  ●  An interview may be required as part of the application process.

Please note: some courses have additional entry requirements.

How is this course assessed?

Assessment is entirely through written examinations at the end of Year 2.

You will complete three exam papers, each testing different combinations of the four themes.

Throughout the course, you will complete regular assessments to prepare you for the final exams.

There is no coursework for Edexcel A Level Business.

This is a graded course where you can achieve A*–U.
