Well known authors visit Clarendon Sixth Form College to provide writing workshops for students.
13 published writers, with experience of university teaching, recently visited the college to work with students during ‘Futures week’, helping students across the curriculum to develop their academic writing techniques.
Futures week forms part of the college’s Futures programme, which provides dedicated support and guidance to students across a variety of pathways, helping them to achieve the highest possible outcomes during their studies.
The visit, which was organised by the Royal Literary Society’s Bridge initiative, provided all year 12 students with 50 minute sessions on writing approaches, techniques and tips for success.
Ruth James, head of A-levels at Clarendon Sixth Form College, said: “We were delighted to welcome such a talented group of published writers to the college. Strong academic writing skills are essential across all subjects and these workshops gave students valuable insights and practical techniques that will support them throughout their studies and beyond. It was fantastic to see students engaging so positively with the sessions and gaining confidence in their own writing abilities.”
Grace Longley, A-level student at Clarendon Sixth Form College, said: “It was incredibly useful and has helped me to realise that the most beneficial part of writing is to plan and review, which I will now incorporate into how I complete my essays and exams to a better standard.”
